Research Is your idea sound in the first place? Speak to others in similar areas of work, and talk to your prospective clients. Is there a need? Gather information – survey needs? Facts Where ever possible deal in facts not opinions. Aims and Objectives State clearly exactly what you are hoping to achieve. Break it down if necessary into sub-objectives. Structure Develop the right structure for your project (constitution, charity, business, partnership) and show clear accountability, so the funding agencies can see where the ‘buck stops’. Cash flow projections Take a good guess at what money will be needed and where
it is going to come from. Research your
sources of money, and make your guesses (where you have to guess) as accurate
as possible. Business plan A clear business plan containing all of the above. Involve your customers! (especially important in youth work projects) Funding Funding will be dependant on you being able to show that you have got all of this in place and are able to manage the project with some degree of sustainability. Good management structure A good structure helps staff to feel empowered and gives them the knowledge that they are pulling together. Clear lines of accountability help to save wasting time when there is a problem. Evaluation – Internal and
External Did you achieve what you said you would? How will you measure this, and who will assess it. Get someone else to say so! Very Good Communication ‘It’s good to talk!’ |
