IN Team BuildingWhen do two and three make more than five..? Synergy is when people or things work so well together that the result is better than the sum of the parts. Teamwork, is a much used, often abused phrase that we take for granted; and yet it permeates many aspects of daily life. Unfortunately, it’s often the case that people don’t develop into high performing teams. Lack of leadership, information or motivation, infighting and mistrust can all erode the benefits of having an effective ‘team’.
Team building can cover a multitude of different disciplines, but at its heart, it is about equipping a group of individuals with the skills and tools to create synergy - to be more than the sum of the parts. Every team has a different starting point. For some, a first step in team building might simply be about getting to know each other. For others addressing complex problems in a safe learning environment allows them to hone the skills that are so vital to working together.
High performing teams are focused, and highly motivated with loads of energy. Poor performing teams are limited in motivation and can be depressing and difficult places to work in. What is it that makes the difference? At INCS we firmly believe that the values and culture of an organisation are fundamental. We focus on experiential learning, encouraging participants to reflect on the outcomes of various activities, and apply the learning from the exercises to the workplace.
